Rocky Mountains’ Leading Institutions Co-Host Discussions on Election Issues

The University of Denver’s Faculty Senate and The Denver Post are proud to present a set of public breakfast discussions that will feature some of the nation’s, and Colorado’s, leading voices on topics that will dominate our Nov. 6 election. Both panel events, held in The Post’s downtown auditorium, will focus on insightful and reasoned discourse that will explore serious issues and delve beyond political rhetoric.

The September 20th event is called will be “The Affordable Care Act: If Not This, What?” a discussion of health care in America.  It is free and open to the public and can be viewed online at the DenverPost.com.

Moderators:

• Michael Booth, Denver Post healthcare reporter
• Richard “Dick” Lamm, former three-term Colorado governor and Co-Director of the University of Denver Institute For Public Policy Studies

Panelists:

• Ezekiel “Zeke” Emanuel, MD, Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, served as special advisor for health policy to the director of the Office of Management and Budget in the White House, and former chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. He is the author of several books including Healthcare, Guaranteed and widely recognized as the architect of the Affordable Health Care Act. Emanuel appears frequently on televised issues programs including Morning Joe, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Hardball with Chris Matthews.
• Linda Gorman is Director of the Health Care Policy Institute at the Independence Institute, a state-based free market think tank in Denver, Colorado.  A former academic economist, she has written extensively about the problems created by government interference in health care decisions and the promise of consumer directed health care.  A contributor to John Goodman’s Health Policy blog, she is also a member of the Galen Institute’s Health Policy Consensus Group and was appointed to the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission for Healthcare Reform where she co-authored one of the Commission’s minority reports.
